Hi guys, hope your all having a nice relaxing weekend. I am so so sooooo excited about this post because not only am I finally sharing our diy book wall but also this gorgeous chippy chalkboard from the Etsy shop Cassols Painted Mantle. I have been wanting to create a book wall for a little over a year now after I saw it on my sweet Friend Erin’s blog but I needed the perfect piece to hang in the middle. And as much as I love my signs I am really looking to add more antiques to our home so when I stumbled across this beauty I knew I had to have it!!! You all know I have an obsession with chalk boards but that fact that this one has antique chippy edges is the cherry on top. And the rest of their handmade wooden goodies are seriously amazing, I’m loving their mirrors, medicine cabinets and cubby shelves as well. So head over and check out their shop for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!
Also, I have been getting so many questions about the book wall since I shared a sneak peak on my Instagram stories. So here it is, the complete and simple DIY. First we laid out the center piece (we used something that was similar size since we didn’t have the chalkboard yet) and started to plan how we would arrange the books and took a photo for memory. Then we used a pencil to draw an outline where the piece will hang so we could start adding the books. After that we tore out pages from different books and used wall paper glue to adhere them to the wall. This assures that there won’t be huge gaps when you attach the books. Now I’m going to warn you guys, once you attach these to the wall they are a nightmare to get off. Just like regular wallpaper so if your thinking about doing this make sure it’s something you are going to leave up for years to come haha. Then once we were finished with the pages we started attaching the books. We simply opened the books in the middle, making sure to leave two pages out. Then we used nails to secure the books to the wall and used the wallpaper glue to attach each page to either side which hid the nails. We kept a few pages out of some of the books to add dimension. When we had all of the leftover books where we wanted I added a few pages throughout and made them stick off the wall a little for a messy look. And wallah, we have an antique book wall! And I’m absolutely obsessed! It’s just so us and the perfect addition to our farmhouse bedroom. I am so excited to style it for every season! I’m thinking of adding some flowers throughout for spring and summer, layering pumpkins on the mantle for fall and maybe hanging some wreaths for the winter. There’s endless possibilities! And I really hope you all love it as much as we do. If your looking to create your own click the link to check out Cassols Painted Mantle and add the perfect centerpiece. Enjoy!
